Closing out the day: Stocks slide after Fed minutes

Closing out the day… Stocks had a relatively quiet day Thursday after Wednesday's big rally. The major indices slid a bit toward the close after the minutes from the latest Federal Reserve meeting showed officials at the central bank are concerned about the potential impact of the Fed's continuing asset purchases.

Among the high-volume stocks today Ford (F), Merck (MRK) and Caterpillar (CAT) booked gains while Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT) and General Electric (GE) all moved lower. The Chicago Board Options Exchange Volatility Index closed the day down 0.09 at 14.59 a 0.61% decrease. The Put/Call Volume Ratio is at 0.80 while the Put/Call Open Interest ratio is at 0.90.
