Stocks close higher after housing, unemployment data

Closing out the day… Stocks closed higher Thursday after lower-than-expected unemployment claims and better-than-expected housing starts helped boost investor sentiment. Earnings from Bank of America (BAC) and Citigroup (C) dragged those to stocks and some other financial names lower.

Among the high-volume stocks today Intel (INTC), Boeing (BA) and eBay (EBAY) booked gains while JP Morgan (JPM), American International Group (AIG) and U.S. Bancorp (USB) all moved lower. The Chicago Board Options Exchange Volatility Index closed the day at 13.68 after opening at 13.45. The Put/Call Volume Ratio is at 0.66 while the Put/Call Open Interest ratio is at 0.93.
