Warmer weather could put a spring in these stocks

As the harsh wintry months come to an end, we start to spend less time inside our homes and move our daily activities outside. Whether it is working in the yard, spending time doing recreational activities, or enjoying vacations with our family, springtime brings warm weather and outdoor fun. It also tends to bring a shift in spending as we move away from winter activities toward more outdoorsy pursuits.

For all of our springtime activities, there are companies there to cater to our needs. Some of these companies just transition from selling winter products to selling spring and summer products, while others traditionally see bigger sales when the weather is warmer than they do during the colder season. In either case, Spring is an important season for all of the stocks we mention here and a strong Spring sales season could send these stocks higher.

One thing that kicks off in the springtime is farming. Farmers need a lot of equipment in order to tend to their crops, and one of the biggest manufacturers of farm equipment is Caterpillar (CAT). Caterpillar posted disappointing fourth-quarter earnings back in January, which sent the stock into a steep sell off, and while it has yet to full recover, it does appear to have found its footing and is trading higher headed into the spring.
