Asian markets were mixed Thursday, with Japanese stocks leading gainers. The Hang Seng was down 0.64% while the Nikkei was up 1.28%. Initial unemployment claims for the week of September 20 rose to 293,000 from 280,000 the previous week.
European stocks are mixed this morning after two days of gains. The FTSE is down 0.04%, and the DAX is up 0.52%.
Energy futures are mixed today. West Texas Intermediate crude oil is $93.09 per barrel, up $0.29 and natural gas is down $0.03. Metals prices are moving down. Gold is down $8.50 and platinum is down $12.80. The Dollar is up versus the Euro and down versus the Yen.
