Sinovac Biotech (SVA) NewsBite - SVA Files With SFDA For HFMD Vaccine

Sinovac Biotech (NASDAQ: SVA) opened at $6.70. So far today, the stock has hit a low of $6.51 and a high of $6.76. SVA is now trading at $6.66, up $0.41 (6.56%). Over the last 52 weeks the stock has ranged from a low of $1.02 to a high of $12.50. SVA announced this morning that it has filed the application with China's State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) to begin a human clinical trial for its vaccine against human enterovirus 71 (EV 71), which causes hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD). This is the first clinical trial application for HFMD vaccine submitted in China. The disease has caused more than 400 deaths in China during the first 11 months of 2009. Health authorities reported over 1.1 million HFMD infections during that period. Technical indicators for the stock are bearish and S&P does not currently have a STARS rating for SVA. If you are looking for a hedged play on SVA the stock seems like it could be a candidate for an April out-of-the-money bull-put credit spread below the 5 range.
