VMware (VMW) NewsBite - VMware Plunges on Competition Worries

Posted on Friday, June 27, 2008 10:43 AM
VMware Inc. (VMW) opened at 58.12. So far today, the stock has hit a low of 54.99 and a high of 58.12. VMW is now trading at 54.50, down 4.42 (-7.60%). The stock hit its 52 week high of 125.25 in October and set its 52 week low of 41.41 in March. VMW has been showing signs of weakness since November of last year. VMware shares have been tumbling after rival Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) announced yesterday evening it started selling its new server virtualization software about six weeks ahead of schedule, putting pressure on market leader VMW. Technical indicators for the stock are bullish but deteriorating. If you’re looking for a hedged play on this stock, consider an August bear-call credit spread above the $70 range. VMW stock could rise up to 28.4% before expiration and this position would still be profitable. [RHF - Seven Summits Strategic Investments NewsBite]
